Key Words: Natural Resources, Human Resources, Tools, Exploration, Exploitation, Lab to Land, Sustainability, Quality.

Geophysics is the powerful tool for achieving economical as well as social development with better sustainability and quality. The available natural resources need to be mapped both in size and quality so that exploitation can be planned by optimizing wealth and health of the environment and people. In this process, the availability of machinery, mapping and data processing tools do have better utility when the human resources adapt it with need based strategies which are expected to be creative and innovative matching to the given geo-environment. The challenges with the water, minerals, pollution, foundation and other shallow investigations are not catering the needs of the society and still struggling to access the benefits of Geophysics. Over the period, the first part of geophysics having machinery and tools were acceptable by the industry. On the other side, there exist serious problems in developing human resources in geophysics with need based integration so that the dynamics and complex geo-environments can be understood very near to the in-situ setup. Then the question arises that what went wrong to reach the present position of HRD and its consequences in the industry?

In this direction, geophysical education does suffer in several ways which includes: limited transformation into a professional course, poor image to attract students, mismatched course design and content, poor at lab to land transformation, lack of recognition at the stage of recruitment, limited employment opportunities, retention, sustainability and recognition in the industry, identify and other consequences at all stages. As a consequence, students’ entry is alarming.

After having such analysis with the status and demand from industry, the need of the hour is to develop human sources with professional image and values. Now, it is the responsibility of the institutes and industries to come forward with need based strategies including Universities adopting Public - Private Partnerships to develop human resources with latest art of technologies at all levels including design, development, demonstration, dissemination and documentation with effective monitoring and evaluation strategies. In addition, training facilities and orientation programmes matching to the needs and demand of the industry specific from time to time certainly improves the productivity and quality of performance which further leads for economical and social development. The institutional alumni’s do facilitate to bridge the gaps with better connectivity on both short term and long term basis. Geophysical tools are scalable, repeatable and sustainable to address the dynamics of mother earth. This whole process is expected to regain the glory so that geophysical tools can be deployed for optimization of natural resources both at the stage of exploration and exploitation with improved sustainability which finally leads for the wealth and health of the environment and people.

Abstract Text

Key words: Community, Interventions, Rehabilitation, Empowerment, Inclusion, Sustainability, Quality of Life.

Statement of the Problem: The limitations in employment opportunities for the Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PIDs) do results for their dependent living with poor quality of life.

Objectives: The study has got specific objectives which include: to know the process of training & rehabilitation; to view the scope of creating employment opportunities; to understand the barriers and limitations in open employment; and to suggest the opportunities with CBR Model.

Introduction: In view of the fact that Disability is the barrier for the Development, economical empowerment of the Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PIDs) gains priority to address the needs of the targeted groups as well as to answer their parents’ concern of “what will happen to the child after us?”  After the successful completion of the training and rehabilitation of the PIDs, the vocational training in the selected trade certainly improves their opportunities for getting gainful employment in the open sector. The inaccessible environment both at working place as well as at external environment has limited their sustainability and further significantly affected their social empowerment. Under these challenges, alternative ways of creating livelihoods at home or community are expected to improve the independent living of PIDs along with the support of their parents / community.

Methodology: The selected PIDs and their parents from parts of Andhra Pradesh have been formed into self help groups (SHGs). With the initial training provided at the Civil Societies, the groups have been motivated to continue the production process of Paper Plates, Phenyl, Washing Powder, Detergent Powder and others at their home / community. At the beginning, the Civil Societies have supported for the marketing by participating at various exhibitions and networking with other forums. In addition, SHGs and Civil Societies made initiatives to strengthen Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) for early identification, early intervention, and prevention of disabilities.

Results: The processes of making products at home / community have resulted for significant changes which include: change in attitude; improved participation of the PIDs; better image with value; improved revenue generation; better living with limited dependency; and improved scope to reach several such targeted groups.

Conclusion: The processes of vocational training cum creation of livelihoods at home / community have resulted for the improved independency of the PIDs. In addition, it has opened the scope to reach several such groups of all ages including the effective measures for the prevention of disabilities. In view of the dynamics and complexities of disability, CBR will have added advantages in addressing the challenges of PIDs which finally improves their independent living within the inclusive community.

National Conference on Employment Leads to Independent Living of Persons with Intellectual Disability 25th - 27th February 2014 by NIMH, Secunderabad

ANNOUNCEMENT OF
National Conference on Employment Leads to Independent Living
of Persons with Intellectual Disability
25th - 27th February 2014
Auditorium, NIMH, Secunderabad
............................................................
The conference PwID constitute around 94 in one lakh in our country as per the records of the National Sample Survey Office Publication in 2003. The service providers in the area of intellectual
disability are around 1200 in our country. It is estimated that around 60% of the service providers have provision for vocational training for PwID of 18 years and above. In the present scenario our country does not have a uniform pattern of transition, vocational assessment and vocational training, placement and follow up procedures. The concept of independent living is far from reality. The surveys done in this regard, show that the organizations working for the adult persons with ID are engaged in various types of training without a proper curriculum package. In order to meet the requirements of the above mentioned lacunae a continuous interaction with the service providers is essential. This workshop will be an initiative to develop models so that a uniform pattern is followed as in the case of special education services offered for children with ID attending special schools.
The primary aim of the national workshop on “Employment & Independent Living of Persons with Intellectual Disability” is to connect and network with members in the field of vocational rehabilitation of persons with intellectual disability, to arrive at a roadmap which would be a guideline for planning and implementation for future services for PWID.

1. National experts will be invited from various disciplines: Psychology, Special
Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Social work from the field of rehabilitation of
Persons with ID.
2. Research papers will be presented by professionals from various disciplines
3. Practitioners as vocational trainers, counselors, teachers who have experience in training & placement of PwID will be invited from all over India to actively participate in the small group discussions based on their experience so that a road map could be drawn
4. The highlight of the conference will be a panel discussion with officials from Department of disability affairs and other significant departments and organizations.

Workshop will be open to professionals, personnel, students, parents, siblings and guardians and
general public.

NIMH request you to be prepared for group discussions centred on the subthemes given in the brochure. You may please send your registration form and abstract by email:
nimh.nce2014@gmail.com, immediately.

NIMH is Looking forward to meet you all..............
