As indicated earlier, i have submitted the abstract in respect of the above title for the International Seminar to be organized by RGNIYD during Jan 2011. The abstract of the same is pasted below for info:

ABSTRACT
Key Words: Development, Exploitation, Utilization,
Displacement, Resettlement, Rehabilitation, Vulnerability, Sustainability, Opportunities,
Quality of Life,
1.
Statement
of the Problem: The induced displacement due to development based on the exploitation
of natural resources causes for the migration of young people affecting both
socially and economically which finally leads for their poor quality of
life.
2.
Objectives:
The objectives of the study includes:
o
To understand skills and needs of the local
people and area including local resources,
o
To map of natural resources like: Land, Water
and Minerals,
o
To make feasibility of exploitation Vs
utilization,
o
To design community based approaches with better
participation,
o
To optimize displacement, development and
environment,
o
To plan need based Resettlement &
Rehabilitation packages,
o
To transform the challenges into opportunities,
o
To assess the impact & level of young
migrants and
o
To move towards sustainable development of the
people and environment with quality.
3. Background: In view of liberalization,
privatization and globalization and explosion in population, there is no option
except to accept for the modernization with matching technologies. The higher
demand of the people’s needs increases burden on the natural resources like:
land, water and minerals as they mostly remain same. This demand Vs supply gap forces
both for unconventional and conventional approaches which results for improper
utilization with significant ill effects on the people and as well as on the
environment. On the other side, poor or no participation of the local community
creates conflicts including the rejection of the developmental activity. In
addition, the poor resettlement and rehabilitation packages both at planning
& implementation enhances the conflicts and further for hazards and
disasters. The SWOT of the natural resources development and its induced
migration helps to understand its challenges and to transform them into
opportunities. In this process, the migrants in general and particularly the
young people get affected for leading better living both socially and
economically with sustainability and quality of life.
4. Methodology: The methodologies deployed
in the study includes:
o
Community based assessment of the local needs
and resources,
o
Geological and geophysical prospecting tools for
mapping the natural resources like: water (groundwater), minerals and other
associated resources,
o
Use of software for better assessment and
planning of exploitation,
o
Effective mechanism for the monitoring and
evaluation including social auditing,
o
Documentation and creating value with better
access & reach and
o
Networking and youth clubs / forums.
5.
Conclusions:
The study has emerged for several conclusions as:
o
It has improved the understanding level of the
development with respect to the local needs, demand and natural resources,
o
The deployment of matching geological and
geophysical tools helped for the mapping of the natural resources like: water,
minerals and other associated both quantitatively & qualitatively,
o
Use of software resulted for better assessment
and planning of strategies for exploitation and
o
The process of monitoring & evaluation and
its documentation with value has helped to check the ill effects on the people
and environment.
6.
Recommendations:
It is recommended to use the technologies with effective monitoring and
evaluation for natural resources and need based development to check the
migration of the young people and to maintain healthy environment.
