UVARD AGM IN HYDERABAD ON 25TH SEPT 2011

Dear All

UVARD is the Federation of the NGOs working for the Rehabilitation and Empowerment of the Persons with Disabilities. Today, it has organized its AGM At Gandhidarshan Hall which is fitting to its spirit, concern and commitment.

It has reviewed its annual progress, status and challenges of the member NGOs, and future plans. The participation was good and interactive.

I had an opportunity to be part of this event and based on its future vision, made suggestions in respect of use of technologies like blogs, creation of access, tax exemptions and other issues. I am in the process of supporting this by way of creating mail ID, blog and process for making it more interactive with information.

It was ended with with the high spirit to move forward for the cause of empowerment of  Persons with Disabilities.

Looking forward for better networking...

NATIONAL TRUST AT ABILITIES MELA 2011

Dear All

In continuation to the day one activities, the seminar has been initiated on the second day (18th Sept. 2011). I had an opportunity to present the National Trust Act, its schemes & programmes and other benefits. After presentation, the session was opened for discussion and many cam forward for better clarification and suggestions.

Later in the day, participated in the Round Table discussion on the Draft on "Rights of the Persons with Disabilites Act 2011 (RPWDA 2011)". It was participatory and had fruitful discussion, At the end, the process emerged with strong suggestions to the authorities.

At the end, the cultural show of the children with special needs was the highlight as it has taken the viewers to the real special world. This is the ability which we all needs to see and understand for making them part of the community with equality, dignity and right.

Hope to move forward for the real inclusion of the PWDs with empowerment which leads for their better living with sustainability and quality of life (QOL).

Looking forward for creating barrier free environment (BFE) which leads for the "REAL INCLUSION OF PWDs".

All the best

INCLUSION OF PWDs AT ABILITIES MELA 2011

Dear All

In continuation to the earlier opening declaration, on the first day, seminar has been organized on the key area entitled "INCLUSION OF PWDs".

It includes the need of developing barrier free environment, connectivity, accessibility, adaptability, connectivity and usability at all levels on the basis on equality and dignity.

The concept of Inclusive Education, the efforts made by the SSA and other special schools was the highlight. It has linked with the day two presentation on the National Trust with the school readiness programme entitled "ASPIRATION".

The approach has motivated the participants and the feelings & concern of the parents has touched the minds who needs to ignite others for doing the needful by carrying the message to many other stakeholders.

The parents, PWDs and other participants could see the abilities of the selected groups of children with special needs both at their stalls and cultural shows.

It was the welcome step and hoping to see more exiting things on the second day.

Looking forward..

All the best

ABSTRACT

Keywords: Salinity, Environment, Interface, Sustainability, Quality of Life, Water harvesting, Watershed Management, Access, Migration, Pollution, hazards, vulnerability.

1.      Statement of the Problem: The availability and access for water resources in terms of quantity and quality is the major challenge for the sustainable development along the Indian Costal Belts.

2.      Objectives: The objective of the study includes:
·        Assessment of the water resources and its challenges including the gap between the demand Vs availability
·        Geophysical and hydrological mapping of the groundwater resources and salt water – fresh water interface and
·        Suitable suggestions for enhancing the water resources including the check over the saline water – fresh water (SW-FW) interface by water harvesting, watershed management and others matching to the local environment.

3.      Background: Water is the most precious natural resource which controls everything on this earth. Life without water cannot be imagined. Water is additional factor to Poverty, Disability and Development which works as cause and consequence of each other.  People face several challenges with the water in general and more significantly along the Coastal Belt. Along the costal parts of Tamilnadu and Union Territory of Pondicherry, the dynamics of the water resources have been affected due to heavy demands for water resources which are mostly due to man made developmental activities. This further resulted for the poor agriculture and further for migration. In view of this, the study has been initiated for developing water resources with better sustainability and quality.

4.      Methodology: The methodologies adopted includes:
·        Assessment of the surface water resources based on the existing data,
·        Geophysical Surveys both profiling and soundings for mapping the groundwater potential and salt water – fresh water interface,
·        Bore well logging (Self Potential, Resistivity and Neutron scanning) for better support and check,
·        Use of GIS and other software for  better processing, identification & monitoring and
·        Participatory strategies for water harvesting and watershed management.

5.      Results & Conclusions: The methodologies adopted have resulted for mapping the groundwater potentials as well as the SW-FW interface with check on ground realities. This further helped to plan for the utility of water resources for basic needs as well as development of the area.

6.      Recommendations: Based on the ground realities and study results, the recommendations made are:
·        Development and implementation of watersheds and water harvesting strategies,
·        Repetition of survey at the interval of 2 years,
·        Check over the inland flow of backwaters and
·        Community Based Strategies for the development of water resources.

MOVE TOWARDS CBR

Dear All

It is the fact that in view of the number of un-reached, lack of resources, poor sustainability, UNCRPD, paradigm shift from welfare to right based models and vulnerability, Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) gains the importance. Now the move more towards CBR rather than other models of rehabilitation.

In view of this, i am happy to create more awareness and development of  right based CBR Approaches rather than its traditional one.

Looking forward for better networking and thus to work for inclusion at all levels with right based strategies and interventions...

with thanks

VMVAT MODEL - CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS

Dear All

It is the day of modernization with technology with need based strategies and interventions. It is more relevant for the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) or NGOs as they are with the people working for their empowerment.   In the process of development and networking, a model has been emerged as VMVAT for the CSOs  and it means as follows:

V- Vision: Every CSO should have the specific vision for making into to reality.
M-Mission: A specific mission will help the CSO to reach its vision.
V- Values: A Value based system or mechanism helps to be with the ground reality with trust and dignity.
A- Accountability: It is the measure to know the CSO's commitment for the cause with accountability.
T- Transparency: Do and show the whole process with evidences and openness.

When this model is added with SWOT and SMART, the CSOs can work to reach their objectives with credibility and sustainability. I will be posting more on this blog and www.nlngre.wordpress.com

Looking forward for the creation fo development with sustainability and quality through CSOs in association with other stakeholders.

All the best
