PERCEPTION OF CSR MANAGERS TOWARDS DISABILITY

Dear All

It is the fact that among the areas of Rehabilitations, Disability gains priority as  its causes & consequences affects the poverty and development.

Accordingly, Disability Rehabilitation gains priority in getting the support from all the stakeholders.

Among the stakeholders, at present the Industries / Companies / Corporate supports for the community development in general and particularly for disability rehabilitation through various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

Various studies have been carried out in understanding the CSR and its initiatives in general and particularly the priority given for various challenges / developments.

In understanding the the priority of CSR initiatives, the focus is on the perception of the Mangers also known as "CSR Managers" who play key role from the stage of framing to utilization.

More will be posted on this key area so that CSR support can be effective both at allotment and utilization for the Disability Rehabilitation.

Looking forward...

All the Best.

NEED OF RAINWATER HARVESTING (RWH) FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Dear All

Water is the primary source for sour survival and it is the fact that "No Life with out Water".

CSE has bought out one successful case study of RWH implemented in Rajasthan (more can be read at: http://www.downtoearth.org.in/content/back-roots ) and comments and suggestions made by me were pasted below as:
....................................................
It is true and successful intervention of Rainwater Harvesting (RWH). The Video Clip is informative and helps for others to follow. Congratulations to the author as well as the community members for utilization of rainwater and creating better access.

I have seen parts of Rajasthan in the year 1985 as an explorationist for the natural resources. That time, access for water in terms of both quantity and quality was very poor and inadequate. Slowly, the people have realized the causes and consequences and made initiations for preserving the rainwater. On the long run, this RWH has helped some communities to improve the access for water which was seen by me in the year 2003. The whole process of RWH is simple and replicable. It only needs concern and commitment by the community and other stakeholders. This is the success story of the community and community alone can achieve such wonderful results in preserving the water particularly and natural resources in general.

One side this process of RWH has resulted for better access in minimizing the water crises and lead for development.

On the other side, particularly in other parts of India, people are forgetting the basic measures for preserving the rainwater and facing its consequences in terms of poor access for water. This further resulted for their poor development with challenges like: Global Warming and Climate Change with hazards & vulnerabilities. This RWH should be the essential component of POVERTY ALLEVIATION and other Developmental Programmes.

In view of the present complex scenario of water crises in major parts of our Nation, still, we can move forward with some simple measures to be taken up by each and every one which includes:
£ Make RWH as mandatory from individual to groups at all levels staring from house to community,

£ Make growing greenery as an habit from house to public places,

£ Use water resources effectively from house to land,

£ Avoid polluting water resources in general and particularly the groundwater,

£ Create awareness among the people and communities in respect of utilization and preservation of water sources,

£ Renovate, Repair and Recharge (3Rs) of the existing water bodies.
Finally every one should realize the fact that "THERE IS NO LIFE WITH OUT WATER" and "WATER IS ESSENTIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT WITH SUSTAINABILITY AND QUALITY"
.........................................

Looking forward for better measures for utilization and RWH.....

with thanks

MORE ON DCT

Dear All

See more points on DCT as:

The author has brought out the advantages and disadvantages of Direct Cash Transfer (DCT) under Dash for Cash (16-31st Dec. Down to Earth and congratulations for the same.

It is the fact that DCT certainly helps to minimize the cost of service delivery system (SDS) which was expected quite high compared to the amount or benefit reached the people.

DCT may not completely stop the migration instead it may enhance the migration.

It may increase the dependency rather than independence.

The sustainability of the DCT is another challenges and creates uncertainty among the people.

Assured income some times may lead for confinement and further poor development.

Enhancing the cash resources alone may not help the people to create livelihoods in terms of both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Social Auditing may help the DCT for better utilization and effectiveness in reaching the targeted people.

DCT should also ensure for the availability, accessibility and affordability (3As) of the matching inputs for developing livelihoods with better sustainability.

In site of the challenges and disadvantages, still DCT can be made effective with the better accountability, participation of the stakeholders at all levels in transparent environment.

Looking forward.................

with thanks

SUGGESTIONS FOR DIRECT CASH TRANSFER (DCT)

Dear All

The comments and suggestions made on the proposed Direct Cash Transfer (DCT) (see more at: http://www.downtoearth.org.in/content/will-cash-transfer-check-migration) were pasted below as:
...............................................................

The author has brought the reality of the Direct Cash Transfer(DCT) implemented in various countries. Congratulations to the author for bringing such analysis which heps to understand the consequences in the case of India. Broadly, it is clear that DCT has got limitation in checking the migration. In some case, it may improve the migration.

India is moving with DCT in the selected districts. It is expected that:
£ It may create confusion and poor access as the eligibility of having the Adhar Card has not reached every one.

£ The transfer of money to the banks or others not having bank facilities may create some barriers and conflicts.

£ DCT is going to give better results in terms of minimizing the cost of service delivery systems (SDS).

£ If the amount is utilized for developmental activities, then it may result for enhancing resources.

£ It may be used to fund the migration and thus enhances the migration and further consequences.

£ It may become additional burden to the women

£ It may increase the dependency rather than looking for independent channel of livelihoods.

£ It may invite some issues as it is individual orientated rather than the community based,

£ Keep it as People oriented developmental scheme rather than popularity oriented one,  and

£ Like any other schemes, sustainability of DCT is still lingering in the minds of the targeted groups.

In spite of the expectations and challenges as listed above, still scheme can be made effective with:

£ effective measures of monitoring and evaluation at all levels.

£ Better participation of the targeted groups and other stakeholders,

£ Use the Social Auditing Tools for effective reach and utilization,

£ Needs to check the migration as it is one of the key barrier in creating sustainable solutions with quality,

£ Utilize the services of the NGOs and other Civil Society Organizations for better reach and utilization.
...............................................................................

Looking forward for better sharing and reflections so as to make DCT more effective in terms of utilization and change expected....

All the best.

MORE TOWARDS SOLAR POWER

Dear All

Knowing the SWOT of Thermal Power & Nuclear Power. it is encouraging to move towards SOLAR POWER.

Additional view on this key issues were pasted below as:
................................
After knowing much on both the sides of establishing the Nuclear Plants, certainly it gives sufficient information for the decision makers to act.

Establishment of the Nuclear Plants should be seen in terms of vulnerability to natural disasters, alternative livelihoods for the Project Affected People (PAPs), impact on the health & wealth of the People & Environment, and cost benefit analysis.

When SOLAR ENERGY is abundant, freely available, can be generated where it is required, minimum loss at transmission, low maintenance cost, and certainly acceptable by all, why the focus is less compare to non-renewable sources like thermal and nuclear.

To resolve most of the objections raised by the common people, professionals and experts, it is better to utilize our time, energy & resources towards the non-conventional source of energies.

Better move towards the SOLAR ENERGY at all levels so that the health and wealth of the People & Environment can be maintained with better sustainability and quality....

.............................

Looking forward for better sharing of experiences so that to have the best keeping the health & wealth of the People & Environment with SUSTAINABILITY...

All the Best.

MOVE TOWARDS SOLAR ENERGY

Dear All

It is the fact that we all are facing the crises with POWER. The process of modernization with matching technology has put us at a stage that with our POWR, life has become miserable and become excuse to stop the work saying that "there is no power?".

In that situation, ray hope is to utilize the SOLAR POWER which is in support of the health and wealth of the people and environment. This has been brought out by the CSE and more about the real situation of the POWER can be read at: http://www.downtoearth.org.in/content/let-solar-shine.

The comments and suggestions made on this key issue by me have been pasted below as:
.................................................
Congratulations to the authors to brought out the real situation of the POWER (DTE, 15th Dec. 2012) and giving the option of SOLAR sources under Let solar shine. It is the fact and stakeholders should accept this.

Knowing this, the need of the hour is to concentrate on the developmental research for the better utility of SOLAR and thus minimize the extraction of natural resources with acceptable impact on the wealth & heath of the People & Environment.

The whole process of power in common man terms covers several stages like: Generation, Storage, Transmission, Distribution and utilization with monitoring & evaluation at each and every stage.

Though a good beginning has been made in utilizing the SOLAR POWER, still lot of work has to be done to make it as more acceptable for the users / stakeholders.

Some of the suggestions made in this direction includes:
£ Better awareness among the stakeholders for understanding the reality and to move for alternatives covering

£ More seminars / workshops / trainings to the stakeholders for better sharing, dissemination and understanding

£ Efficient and durable solar panel and batteries for both generation and storage.

£ Cost effectiveness for better motivation

£ Support for required research at national and other Research Institutes

£ Matching support from the Government and other agencies for transfer of technology from LAB to LAND

£ As a model, installation of SOLAR Units at all the Government and Public Utility Centers.

Certainty, such effective measures will help us to utilize the Solar Power to the maximum extent so that INDIA can move from DARKER DAYS to BRIGHTER DAYS with sustainable solutions.
............................................................

Looking forward for better sharing and reflections so that sustainable solutions can be developed for addressing the power crises...

All the Best
