ABSTRACT

Key Words: Natural Resources, Exploitation, Pollution, Water, Access, Service Delivery, Vulnerabilities, Community Initiatives, Sustainability, Quality of Life

The processes of LPG, industrialization and business to business models have brought wealth. The growth in the wealth is not uniform for the people over the geographical area. This has further widened the gap between the rich / urban verses poor / rural villages. Exploitation of natural resources without balancing its negative impact on people and its surrounding has affected the health and wealth of the people and environment. The heavy demand on industrialization has resulted for pollution which is in alarming stage. The shift in the business model from Business to People (B2P) to Business to Business (B2B) has resulted for today’s crisis covering water, power, global warming, climate change and consequences on people and environment. The inadequate resettlement and rehabilitation for the PAPs is another serious issue for the civil societies to address.  The uneven distribution of development, technologies, wealth, and resources has resulted for marginalization of people with several disadvantages including social exclusion. It has further resulted for poor ‘3As’ which stands for Availability, Accessibility and Affordability for majority of the people in the areas of water, sanitation, power, health, nutrition, education, employment / livelihoods which are alarming with reduced quality of life. In view of the fact that there is no way except to accept the process of industrialization and globalization, the need of the hour is to look for optimization in developmental models which focuses for larger groups of people’s empowerment. The Civil Societies which are very near to the people with better reach can play a key role to address their issues and vulnerabilities with matching strategies and interventions. In this direction, one of the key limitations for civil societies is the availability of resources from the stakeholders. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is emerging as a major source of funding for the civil societies. CBR is the strategy within the community development which aims for improving the quality of life as an empowerment tool. In addition, NGOs also play significant role for the health and wealth of the environment with the better use of natural resources. Use of modern prospecting cum processing tools like Geophysical; Geological; GPS; GIS and others supports for safer exploitation covering Design, Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation (DIME). The paper also presents the supports extended for the NGOs working in parts of Andhra Pradesh through the channel of CSR and collaborations developed in achieving the sustainable development of the marginalized groups. The initiatives taken up by the civil societies have resulted for the improvement in the reach both quantitatively and qualitatively. The CBR model has improved the access for the resources with better availability, accessibility and affordability. The CSR supports on one side minimized the gap between the demand and availability of resources for the civil societies and on other side improved the business of the company with better brand image. The CSR- CBR model is flexible, scalable, replicable & sustainable and can be deployed in other environments matching to the needs, skills and vulnerabilities of the people / communities.
